Personal Reflections, Wisdom & Insights from Sifu Philip Holder
Welcome
Welcome to Sifu's Place — a personal space where Sifu Philip Holder shares his thoughts, reflections, and insights drawn from over four decades of study, teaching, and living the warrior philosophy. This is not a formal classroom. It is a conversation — the kind you might have sitting across from a teacher who has walked the path for a long time and has something real to say.
About Sifu Holder
Sifu Philip Holder has been a student of the martial arts, the mind, and the human condition for over 40 years. He is a Wing Chun practitioner and instructor, a certified clinical hypnotherapist, a life coach, a published author, and a seminar presenter who has worked with thousands of students and clients across the United States and internationally.
But more than any credential or title, Sifu Holder is a thinker — someone who has spent a lifetime asking hard questions about what it means to live well, to be strong, to be honest, and to be of genuine service to others. Sifu's Place is where those thoughts find a home.
Full Bio & TeamFeatured Reflection
"Strength is not the absence of fear. It is the decision that something else matters more."
— Sifu Philip Holder
We live in a culture that confuses confidence with certainty, and strength with the absence of vulnerability. But the warriors I have admired most — in the dojo and in life — were not people who never doubted. They were people who acted anyway. They felt the weight of the moment and stepped forward. That is the real curriculum. Not the forms, not the techniques — the willingness to keep moving when everything in you wants to stop.
Topics & Themes
Reflections on what it truly means to walk the path of the warrior — not as a fighter, but as someone committed to excellence, integrity, and continuous growth in every area of life.
Insights from decades of hypnotherapy practice on how the subconscious mind shapes behavior, belief, and potential — and how to work with it rather than against it.
Explorations of Taoist, Buddhist, and classical Chinese philosophical principles and how they apply to modern life, relationships, and personal development.
Thoughts on the integration of physical, mental, and emotional health — and why true wellness cannot be separated from how we think, move, and relate to others.
Reflections on the responsibility of the teacher, the relationship between student and instructor, and what it means to pass something of real value to the next generation.
Personal stories, hard-won insights, and honest observations about the challenges and rewards of living with intention, purpose, and a commitment to becoming better.
Words to Live By
"The goal is not to be better than someone else. The goal is to be better than you were yesterday."
On personal growth
"A teacher who only teaches technique has missed the point entirely. The technique is the vehicle. The destination is the person."
On teaching
"Your subconscious mind does not argue with you. It simply does what it believes you want. The question is — what have you been telling it?"
On the subconscious
"Discipline is not punishment. It is the gift you give your future self."
On discipline
"The dojo is a laboratory for life."
